The Presentation below is a SlideShare version of the one I gave at the University of Denver-College of Business to the Innovation Design And Execution class on February 23, 2010. The original presentation took about two hours, so reserve a few minutes as there is a fair amount of data.
Note: at present Slideshare has an “issue” with Page 8 (it is fine in PowerPoint). The graphic is covering up the lower bullet. So you know, it says: “The production side of IT will look something like this model:” … which is found on the next page.
Hope this helps,
DP Harshman

Below are two comments I received regarding my presentation to the class — Professor Bauer asked for their feedback several days later. I thought you would enjoy them, I know I did. I’ve applied some minor editing for clarity:
1. “… The other lecture [in which I] learned something new was Mr. Harshman’s lecture about IT. In the past, my thoughts about IT departments were fixing, installing soft and hard ware computer facilities. Now, I have enough understanding about how IT is important and how it makes the difference.”
2. “… Understanding the importance of IT, how the division works, and what steps are required to work with IT is also priceless. Many times the IT department is the key to the success of our innovations. Working for such a large company, this topic helped me put into perspective how important this department is and how valuable it is to understand their processes. Many times this department gets blamed for being “too slow” or having un-reasonable guidelines, getting the IT side of the story would help many people understand how important it is to include this department from the very beginning of the idea creation.”
[...] This will be easier if you’ve already done your best to make sure everyone knows and understands the true value of IT to them, see “PPT: From Idea To Execution – Working With IT“ [...]
