Welcome IT Managers and Project Managers to FromTheRanks™ of IT.
This is a new site dedicated solely to uncovering, addressing, discussing and re-establishing the Fundamentals of IT. One might consider this The Home Of IT Fundamentals™.
What does that have to do with you?
Everything.
You in your role as a manager are critical to the success of IT. But. In case you haven’t noticed, IT is not fairing all that well these days. More and more IT jobs and functions are being shipped somewhere else (where you are not). With very mixed results (as you well know). Nor does it matter what country you live in. If it has not happened to you, yet, it very likely will.
There are a number of flaws within this “solution to IT”, not the least of which is the U.S. and other countries are losing tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of IT jobs … almost daily it seems.
The root cause behind why this is occurring is (in my humble opinion) that the Fundamentals of IT have either been (a) lost, (b) ignored or (c) never noticed and thus not learned.
We can, with your help, re-establish and re-invigorate these fundamentals and this will go a long way towards re-establishing IT as a vital, recognized, home-country based, business partner.
If you have read my “About DP Harshman” page, under the “About” tab, you already know that I’ve spent a great deal of my IT career in the trenches, as it were; climbing from absolutely green, novice, junior programmer to The Director, and virtually every role in between.
So, what I write about, post about, is based on reality. Not “ivory tower”, never been there or done that theory.
This is important. Only reality based, experience based, solutions will help us re-build, re-design and re-shape the future of IT.
FromTheRanks™ of IT is about “management on high” and “in the trenches” issues. It is about constant change and the SDLCs and policies and procedures to manage it. It is about organizational structures and the good and bad use of technology. It is about solutions that work, and ones that do not.
I invite you to subscribe to this site’s Posts for in the coming days, weeks and months I will add new ones that are pointedly relevant to your success and the success of your IT area. Posts that turn into focused discussion zones where IT professionals from all levels can anonymously contribute and bounce ideas off of each other.
Speaking of which, I invite you, as an IT professional, to become a registered subscriber yourself so that you can anonymously contribute to the discussion and help build a community made up of other forward looking, fundamentals based, IT professionals. This is your site. Our site. A professional IT members-only site.
Thank you for visiting. As long as you follow the Rules Of The Road (see that page under the “About” tab) you are welcome back anytime.
